How to use these numbers

What length should I aim for?

Title: about 50–60 characters (under ~600px). Meta description: about 120–158 characters. Shorter is safe; longer usually gets cut with a "…". Wide characters (W, M, caps) eat pixels faster than narrow ones (i, l, t).

Why does Google rewrite my snippet anyway?

Google frequently rewrites titles and descriptions to match the query — studies find rewrites more than half the time. A clear, accurate title and description still raises the odds your preferred text is used, and helps click-through even when rewritten.

Do meta descriptions affect rankings?

No, not directly. Google has said meta descriptions are not a ranking factor. They act like ad copy: a relevant, specific description with a benefit or call to action can earn more clicks, which is why this checker focuses on clarity and truncation rather than "SEO score" tricks.

Desktop vs. mobile preview?

Desktop shows roughly 600px titles and ~2 lines of description (~150–160 chars). Mobile is narrower and can truncate sooner. Toggle both above — if it fits on mobile, it almost always fits on desktop.

Tip: front-load important words — truncated text cuts from the right. Keep branding at the end (e.g. "… | Brand").
